The Courage To Stand
One of the distinguishing characteristics that separates Christians from denominational people is we have the courage to stand.Telling people the truth is not always easy, as there are often consequences for doing so, but God’s will must be done, and it must be done without apology.
We live in a liberal society, where not only does anything go, but there is a lack of faith in God and his word. As the Hebrews writer penned,
“But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.” (Hebrews 10:39)
Modern religion usually patterns itself after the “climate” of society. The tolerance, compromise, and procrastination that forms the basis of the thinkng of society at large nearly always finds its way into the minds of those who “profess” religion. Many among the Lord’s own people adhere to the idea that having the courage to stand is arrogant, mean-spirited, and unkind. Pay close attention to the following.
The Bible teaches that there is only one true religion, and it is the only one that has the right to exist!
Some folks consider it arrogant to affirm this fact even though it is exactly what the New Testament teaches! Paul said, “There is one body.” (Ephesians 4:4)
In the same letter he identified the “one body” as the congregation over which Christ reigns as head. (Ephesians 1:22-23) Therefore, when we teach that there is one church (or assembly of the saved), we are teaching exactly what the Bible says, and it is not arrogant to do so. It is right to teach this. The “one body” is the group that Jesus himself promised to build. (Matthew 16:18) No other religious group on earth has any right to exist. All others are wrong! Why? Because the Bible teaches they are wrong.
All of the saved are in the body of Christ which is the church of Christ, the congregation of God’s dear Son. (Acts 2:47) The Lord adds the saved together in “one body,” and that one body is not a denomination. Every denomination on the earth is man-made, stands in opposition to God, and according to God’s word they will be destroyed. (Matthew 15:13-14) The Psalmist said, “I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.” (Psalm 119:104) If a path is wrong it should be hated, and no apologies should be made for hating evil! There is no record in the New Testament of any true apostle of Christ ever consorting with the religious heretics of their day! They hated all religious error and for good reason; their Master and the Spirit of God who spoke through them hated all false doctrines. (John 14:25-26; 15:26-27; John 16:13) They spent their lives teaching the truth and exposing the errors of their day.
The time is long overdue that we demand that those who preach and teach “mount up” and tell it like it is without fear or favor!
Proclaimers of truth must be bold. (Ephesians 6:18-20) We should expect no less and God will accept no less. All of us should have the courage to stand. Can you be counted on to take your stand with God and those who stand with him? Those around us may think we are arrogant, but in reality we are bold and showing true love for God and human beings. (Ephesians 4:15)
God’s way is the only right way in the world. His way is the way of righteousness and truth. He says there is only one body, and there are no saved people out of it. It is bought by blood and will be delivered to heaven in the end. (Acts 20:28; Ephesians 5:23-25) No denomination has any such hope.
