The Pillar and Foundation of the Truth

“The Pillar and Foundation of the Truth”

Paul wrote the following words to a young evangelist named Timothy: “If I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the congregation of the living God, pillar and foundation of the truth.” (1 Timothy
3:15)

God has a “household,” a family, and it is on the earth for a very important reason; it is the “pillar and foundation of the truth.” We must never forget why we as the Lord’s people are on the earth.

We are to uphold and defend religious truth.

This involves teaching and preaching God’s will. Anything that challenges God’s word challenges God, because he is the author of his word. Jesus said God’s word is truth. (John 17:17) Christians must seriously take note of anything that perverts the doctrine of Christ. We must avoid complacency. Soldiers of Christ arise! (Ephesians 6: 10-20)

God’s plan of salvation is always challenged by denominational doctrines that promote salvation by faith alone, grace alone, and even works alone. Nothing alone saves. People must believe (John 3:16), change their ways (Acts 2:38), and be immersed in order to be saved from their past sins (Acts 22:16; 1 Peter 3:21). The household of God must be alert to changes that are made to God’s plan of salvation.

God’s plan of worship is always challenged by denominational doctrines that promote human additions to worship. Mechanical music in worship, praise dancing, be-bopping, and imitating the sounds of mechanical instruments are human additions that add to God’s plan. The New Testament teaches us to sing (Ephesians 5:19), pray (Acts 2:42), contribute a portion of our monetary resources (l Corinthians 16:1-2), eat the Lord’s Supper (l Corinthians 11:23-29), and instruct the Lord’s people in the way of righteousness. (Acts 2:42)

Any threat to God’s holy truth must be addressed by God’s congregation because it is the “pillar and foundation of the truth.”

God’s Word Is Truth

March 16, 2014

God’s Word Is Truth

Psalm 119 verses 142 and 160 says, “Your righteousness is eternal righteousness, and your law is truth … The sum of your word is truth; and every one of your righteous ordinances endures forever.” Jesus said to his Father in John 17: 17, “Sanctify them in the truth: your word is truth.” Paul wrote to the brothers and sisters in Colossae and said, “You heard before in the word of truth of the gospel.” (Colossians 1:5)

The preceding texts of scripture plainly teach that the word of the living God is truth.

Truth is the state of being true, trustworthy, or genuine.

It refers to that which is in accord to fact or reality. God’s word is absolutely true.

All human creeds have errors in them. They pervert the word of God and teach false doctrine. All of them deny plain doctrines of God’s holy word.

For instance, the Baptist manual says we are justified by faith only. The word of God says, “You see then that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.” (James 2:24) A person is justified like the Baptist manual says, or like the Bible says. The Bible is right.

The Baptist manual says “baptism is not essential to salvation.” The Bible says, “Immersion does also now save us.” (l Peter 3:21) Immersion is essential to salvation like the Bible says or it is not. It can’t be both ways. The word of God is truth! The Baptist manual is wrong.

The Methodist discipline says “baptism,” may be performed by “sprinkling, pouring, or immersion.” The word of God says the act is immersion and it is the picture of a “burial.” (Romans 6:3-4; Colossians 2:12)

God’s word is truth and will always crush anything that opposes it.
